Tales of iron is a 2D, Souls Like, Action-RPG with a big emphasis on punishingly brutal combat. Step into the shoes of Redgi, heir to the Rat Throne as he tries to restore his broken kingdom and avenge his family, after being conquered by the merciless Frog clan and their fearsome leader, Greenwart. Explore the war-torn countryside of your kingdom, discover a deceivingly charming world despite the dark subject matter of the story. In your journey, you will also encounter unique companions and friends that will help you in your adventure, in their own way whether that’s new meal recipes, blueprints to forge weapons and armor, or even a powerful vehicle.

  • Your whole journey will be narrated by the famous voice of Doug Cockle most known for his role as the Witcher Geralt of Rivia. Travel through the medieval-fantasy Rat Kingdom, complete side quests, and participate in faction battles to get additional gold on the side to fuel the war machine against the frog clan.
  • Face all kinds of enemies from undead frog zombies to giant Insects and everything in between, all sorts of disreputable creatures still lurk in the kingdom taking advantage of the situation, in order to reign victorious in these encounters you will need to study your opponents’ movements and react accordingly, but you will also have your own arsenal of attacks at your disposal.
  • Equip different types of armor and weapons for Redgi, use what you feel is the most comfortable, do you prefer heavy armor and an ax even if it slows you down? Or do you prefer to dance with your enemies and perform perfect dodge rolls with light armor and a spear?
  • Once in a while you will encounter especially tough enemies that will present their own challenge and will take a lot of patience to take down, you will need more than a good set of armor to win so keep your wits about you one false move and your dead.

Reviews

Tails of Iron could go deeper on the story and lighter on the backtracking, but if it ever gets a sequel I hope it maintains obvious love seen in the art direction and design.

From milking bugs to slaying frogs with jetpacks, Tails of Iron is an off-the-walls, brilliantly intuitive sidescroller, but it has a heart and keeps you gripped from start to finish as you slaughter a conveyor belt of would-be challengers. It’s not about avenging your father, not entirely – it’s about family and community. Vin Diesel would be proud.
